TRACK 4 - "THE DIVINE FEMININE"

Kylee's AUX is a 12-month project that consists of 12 photoshoots, one for each month of 2023. These shoots are inspired by music: songs, album covers, and music videos. Music is one of the most powerful ways to tell a story. Music can gasp emotions. Music can alter your perspective. Music can inspire. For this project, I will take the stories told by 12 musical artists and visually tell these stories through photos. My name is Kylee Chua; I am a photographer and a visual storyteller. And this is Kylee’s AUX.

"The Divine Feminine"

A photoshoot inspired by Mac Miller

Welcome to the fourth track of Kylee’s Aux. April's collection is inspired by Mac Miller's album, The Divine Feminine. Miller wrote an album about his feelings towards women and his prespective of love. The album is not about one specific woman, but every divine feminine who has impacted his life.

I wanted to express the feeling of loving a woman so much, you see her as a divine being. I spent time gathering quotes by Mac Miller from videos and interviews. I asked my boyfriend and some of my closest guy friends for their perspective. I wanted to really understand what a woman means to a man.

I feel that when you love someone so much, you see them as perfect. They are so beautiful and flawless. They're divine. They feel like heaven.

I wanted this photoshoot to represent that feeling I just descibed. Aaliya plays the role of The Woman who has the divine feminity. She wears a satin white dress and pearls around her neck.

What does it mean to have the divine feminine energy? I asked a good friend this question and she told me, "the divine feminine energy descibes a woman who is tune with herself: sensual, connected, loving, and kind."

I found a video of Miller explaining his album as a love story. You hear him fall in love, get hurt. and once again finds love. Mac Miller praises the woman he loves in this album. He views her like a goddesses.

"i only have experienced love once but to me it was everything. it’s a rush of emotions. someone you’ve placed above all else. they start to give you a another reason to live and work. you start thinking crazy irrationally and it’s honestly an out of body experience when you are fully in love. you prioritize someone because you love them so much. they give you a reason to wake up and reason to go to sleep. they make you cry and hurt but it’s because you love and care so much. they make you mad and upset. you feel so deeply all of the emotions you can for this person because of who they are for you. they are the only person who can make you smile fully and be the happiest you can. only someone you love can do that. the person you love is someone you feel comfortable around. fully being able to be yourself. no worries about how they will judge you or perceive you for your actions.
